Week 9: Deliver It

In this week's reflection, I'm going to use the Four F's of Active Review framework to delve deeper into the work I've done on the project packaging as well as the poster design.

Fact

In Week 9, my project entered the Define phase, and I began focusing on potential expansion of the project. Mairi suggested that I consider the product packaging design. Initially, I thought packaging wasn't necessary, as I believed users would mainly purchase the product through the website. However, I later realized that when users receive the heart rate monitor, they indeed need packaging to enhance their unboxing experience. This week, I started working on the product packaging design, as well as additional materials such as posters and user manuals. I also designed the product manual, which helped address the missing ethical considerations in my project, and the logo. Specifically, for the logo design, I used the color scheme from the game.

Feeling

During this week, I felt an increasing workload, and pressure followed. Especially after realizing the need for more additional product materials, it undoubtedly added to my list of tasks. I felt somewhat frustrated because I thought I had overcomplicated the project in the initial definition, which made the subsequent work much more challenging. Moreover, Mairi mentioned that, as a designer, I didn’t need to handle many engineering details such as coding, yet I chose to do them anyway, which led to added pressure.

Finding

Through my experiences this week, I discovered that there were some issues with the initial definition of my project — I had overcomplicated the design goals, resulting in increased workload now. Additionally, I realized the importance of adhering to the design methods strictly. I should follow the Double Diamond design process properly, as any deviation leads me to overlook crucial information.

Future

In the future, I plan to be more pragmatic during the project planning and defining stages, avoiding overcomplicating the project goals. I will focus on my responsibilities as a designer and not take on too much of the engineering work. Additionally, I will prioritize the user’s unboxing experience. By effectively delegating tasks and focusing on the core aspects of design, I believe I can reduce my workload and improve the overall quality and efficiency of the project.
