《The little Prince》 influenced my whole childhood. It's not just the daring adventures of the little prince that fascinate me, but his tethered, tame relationship with the rose and the fox. In 2015, On Entertainment produced an animated fantasy film adapted from the Little Prince, directed by Mark Osborne. The film tells the story of a young girl who happens to meet an old pilot and is guided by his memories on a journey to explore the little prince's world. When I watched this animated film adapted from the original work, I thought it perfectly restored the image of the little prince in my mind. In addition, the scene transformation, the size relationship between characters and the beautiful background in the animation were also very restored.
Mood Board
The three aesthetic words used in this film are progressive, wrapped and twisted.
The progression is reflected in the size of the characters from person to person. As for the other characters in the movie, businessmen, drunkards, Kings all have different heights and shapes. These sizes are also related to the setting of their characters. This made me realize that the progressive relationship between the size of objects can convey a lot of information.
The roses wrapped the little prince and the fox, which made me feel the complex relationship between the three things. At the same time, I also feel the tender feelings of mutual redemption between them.
Twisted is the little prince's scarf. The scarf is the symbol of the little prince, who always wears this yellow scarf. The scarf bends and flaps whenever the wind blows through it.
Concept sketches
I created rough concept sketches based on three aesthetic terms. I ended up with the scarf wrapped in roses on the asteroid version. In the original film, there is no scene where roses are wrapped in a scarf, but I think the scarf is the symbol of the little prince. The little prince still had to travel to other places, but he was still thinking of his rose. For me, plan 3 May be more suitable for displaying chess pieces, but I think it is not unique enough to express the delicate feelings of the little prince for roses.
Detail sketch design
Next, I followed up on the details of my plan. Including the size and depth of the bottom hole. I changed it to a cylindrical base in consideration of the fact that the circular base was not easy to fix. The size of the flowers and scarves has also been slightly changed. The scarf has also been turned upside down to make it easier to fasten to the asteroid.
Make 3D design model drawings
When I make 3D printed models. I had a lot of problems with the spherical design and it was hard for me to decide. And the size ratio is often not up to standard. There is also the problem of the arrangement of points, lines and surfaces. These are the challenging parts of the task. Maybe because of insufficient time, I think my base is not perfect for the final product. But I'm happy with the idea and the result of my scarf wrapped in roses. In the next presentation, I will arrange my time reasonably and spend more time thinking and designing more schemes when making sketches.
