For this week's work, I have used the CARL reflective framework to help me organise my thinking process and project progress.CARL is a commonly used reflective model that consists of four components; Context, Action, Results and Learning.
Context
This week, my main focus was on writing the backstory for my game and starting the creation of character illustrations. The plot revolves around a boy who, after discovering a glowing helmet, realizes he can hear others' inner thoughts. This discovery sets him off on a journey of self-exploration. My goal is to craft a narrative that resonates with the audience while incorporating elements of cognitive restructuring from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Action
While developing the game’s story, I focused on designing levels that involve moral dilemmas influenced by the ability to hear other people’s inner thoughts. The aim is to make players question whether the thoughts they hear are real or just projections of their own anxieties. On the character design side, I created character illustrations and sketches to visually express the main characters' emotions and traits. Additionally, I designed the characters’ outfits and postures based on their personalities and professions. For facial expressions, I intentionally left the characters’ faces and expressions blank, encouraging players to interpret their emotions and choose responses in-game. As for naming the boy, I chose “Alden,” a name that conveys strength and courage, reflecting his bravery in the story. This may also serve as a hidden easter egg in the game.

Results
By the end of the week, I completed a well-structured game story that incorporates key CBT concepts, helping players reshape their understanding of themselves and others. I also created sketches and designs for each character, enriching the overall concept of the game.
Learning
This week, I learned that combining storytelling with psychological principles can create a powerful narrative that not only entertains but also promotes personal growth. The process of character creation taught me how, as a designer, I can immerse myself in a character’s perspective to design their posture, movements, and other visual elements.
