Week 2 - Research Objectives and Concept

For this week's reflection, I will use the Integrated Reflective Cycle (Bassot, 2013), a model that guides you through four steps to understand and learn from experiences. This model allows for the exploration of feelings, assumptions, and professional practice.
Experience
In week two, I have to admit I was still feeling a bit anxious, especially when I thought about incorporating advanced technology into my design—it was quite overwhelming. To boost my confidence, I dove into four case studies (Quest - Te Whitianga, SuperBetter, Woebot Health, Happify). These cases provided crucial evidence and theories on how to apply Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) within design methodologies. Additionally, I revisited the four plans I previously proposed, reflecting on and refining them. I also created mood boards for three of the plans, which helped me better envision the future direction of the project.

Reflective Action
Through the analysis of these case studies, I have to admit that I discovered more possibilities for combining CBT with design thinking. I realized that in my project, gamification and the integration of CBT are crucial, especially for my target audience, adolescents. While creating the mood boards, I merged this gamification design with the visual styles that appeal to teenagers, laying a solid foundation for the future direction of the project. This process has helped me think more deeply about the next steps in selecting the most appropriate project.
Theory
By studying and reflecting on how to apply CBT theory to design practice, I realized that in future projects, the flexible use of reasoning and case studies is key to success. I also learned that keeping the needs and preferences of users at the center of the design process is fundamental to ensuring that the project is both practical and effective.

Preparation
Next, I plan to have a thorough discussion with my mentor, Mairi, to evaluate the feasibility of these plans and decide which one to pursue. Then, I will develop a few alternative plans (Plan A/B/C) for the final goal and proceed with initial prototype testing and user research. The path forward is becoming clearer, and while there may still be some bumps along the way, I am eager to see the final outcome!
